Waves – Hit The Rewind: Day 1

On hitting rewind, you’re taken down memory lane paved by films and music at Waves 2013, the annual social and cultural festival of BITS Pilani’s Goa Campus. The website for Waves 2013 gives you a friendly guide of the past representing their theme in lucid and well-designed terms. They’re looking forward to performances on a large scale this year – be it extraordinary or egg-and-tomato-worthy. With November 8 seeing the kick-off of the festival, Waves 2013 will have an eclectic list of events lining the itinerary, and therefore setting the mood for talent to be showcased.

The three-day long festival holds a promise of holding over 10,000 students. After seeing top order names like Indian Ocean, Kailash Kher and Australian band Dead Letter Circus last year, this year is looking forward to live acts by Bollywood duo Vishal-Shekhar, blues guitarist Warren Mendonsa’s Blackstratblues and playback singer Nikhil D’Souza.

Marking the start of the festival is the elimination round of the Indian Rock competition. Talking sifting through talent, the first day of the festival will conduct eliminations under categories of Western and Indian solo singing, JAM, Nukkad Natak (Theatre) and photography, in earnest.

Meanwhile in the auditorium, Nityanjali, the festival’s most popular dance contest and one of its flagship events, will unfold towards twilight as the day comes to a close. Natyanjali is known for holding the hand of various unidentifiable dance forms and bringing it to centre-stage. To grab attention, the organizers have even invited professional dance groups to participate, which will in turn raise the bar of dances.

On the smaller palette are a set of quizzes and world games that they label as ‘Informals’, which will run through the day. Following suit will the Bid n Barter event that gives students a feel of the trade world through mock market bidding and endless negotiations.

Lastly, as the semi-finals of SeaRock, one of biggest Indian rock competitions, comes to a close, the festival will conduct an all-night treasure hunt to foster geniality among participants.
