Oracle to launch first start-up cloud accelerator in Bangalore

In a move that expands not only its base in the country but also support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Digital India’ initiative, Oracle announced the launch of its first start-up cloud accelerator in India.

The first center will be opened on April 8 in Bengaluru that will be inaugurated by Oracle’s President of Product Development Thomas Kurian.

“Through the Oracle Startup Cloud Accelerator and the growing popularity of cloud as an alternate computing model, we want to be the catalyst for new business ideas,” Kurian said in a statement.

This is the US technological firm’s first investment in the country. Oracle’s CEO Safra Catz, on February this year, had said that the company was setting up nine innovation centers and would open a 2.8 million square feet office in Bangalore.

The initiative will be led by Sanket Atal, who is the group vice president of Development at Oracle. Other centers, the company said, will be launched in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Noida, Pune, Chennai, Gurgaon, Trivandrum and Vijayawada.

The main objective of the accelerator is to boost startup’s development through technical and business mentoring. The cloud accelerator will be working with midsized firms, including micro, small, medium-sized enterprises and startups.

The accelerator will also be providing technology, co-working spaces, free credits on the Oracle Cloud, access to investors and Oracle’s customers and partners.
