Samajwadi Party Uses a Billy Joel Song for Its Campaign
Following the footsteps of Narendra Modi’s NaMo anthem (listen here), Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav has bought the rights to the 1989 Billy Joel track “We Didn’t Start The Fire” for his campaign for the upcoming 2014 general elections. The punch line “Man Se Hain Mulayam, Irade Loha hai” is Yadav’s point of sale.
Getting Bollywood veteran Javed Ali to sing, and Udai Pratap Singh, a former Rajya Sabha MP, to pen Hindi lyrics for the song, Yadav’s plan of commercial campaigning looks impressive, especially since he has two more compositions underway – one to be sung by Rekha Bharadwaj and the other by Javed Ali. But the question is, after all this campaigning will the SP be able to start a new fire for UP? 2014 holds the answers.
Listen to the track on their website here. Read our take on the NaMo anthem here.
