Sounds of Freedom Concert, a one day festival that gets together a varied mix of folk, acoustic, rock, jazz and blues music bands scheduled to take place on March 23 after a month long postponement.

There is more reason to celebrate for those of us looking around for original indie music concerts to be a part of. The date of the postponed Sounds of Freedom Concert has finally been announced and the line-up remains unchanged. The event is scheduled to take place at NSIC Grounds in Okhla on March 23 towards the end of this month.

The concert which will begin at 1 pm will host around fourteen acts and will go on till the evening. The bands and musicians scheduled to perform at the event include a mix of Indian and International acts like Avial, Bastar Band, Bob Geldof and the Band, Kailash Kher and Kailasa, Loknaad, Rajasthan Josh, Rewben Mashangya, Saurav Moni, Sonam Kalra and the Sufi Gospel Project, Soulmate, Susmit Sen Chronicles,Talavya, Vikku Vinayakram and Winit Tikko. (For detailed information on artists check here.)

The event was initially scheduled to take place a month before but had to be delayed unfortunately due to unforeseen reasons. However, the good news remains that the event will take place, albeit at a different venue, and people who had already bought tickets previously can use the same to attend the event this time over. The eclectic line-up of artists involves those with folk roots, and a deeper socio-political engagement in their music.  Teamwork will be organising the event and Mr.Sanjoy Roy, Managing Director, Teamwork told us, “Given the huge potential that art has to generate dialogue and discourse, we hope that through music Sounds of Freedom will be a powerful tool to reaffirm the importance of imagination, creativity and emotion in sustaining and enriching conversations around democracy, freedom and right to freedom of expression.”

A good variety of artists are performing at the festival including acts like folk rock band Avial who explore the cultural complexities through the legends of Kerala to Egypt’s most popular hip-hop act Arabian Nightz, known for their socially and politically relevant music.

Around the event a Sounds of Freedom digital album will also be released to mark the event. Themed around freedom, and the idea of truly being free in the space of a city, the album gets together unchartered talents from different colleges like St. Stephen’s, Hindu College, Kirori Mal  College, Ambedkar University and Satyawati College to write two original soundtracks Orange Sky and Hum Samaan Hai. The album itself is a compilation of a lot of genres including jazz rock, blues and post rock.
