Toilet Concerts –  Wash For India Postponed

Wash For India plans to rope in musicians with a cause – to clean up India’s sanitation habits.

Talk about washing dirty linen in public, albeit for a good cause. Wash For India, an organisation dedicated to coming up with creative solutions to deal with the water, sanitation and hygiene crisis in India is organising a Toilet Concert series, which will take place on November 15. It will feature the Susmit Sen Chronicles, Shubha Mudgal and Harpreet. The show precedes the World Toilet Day November 19, a day dedicated to the water, hygiene and sanitation crisis of the world.

Nirat from Wash for India says, “Susmit has played quite a pivotal role in shaping this project. We plan to take this project to all the major cities of the country. Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, etc if all goes well.”

Wash for India believes in a fecophobic country  (where people are not responsible for their own sanitation unlike in the West) awareness is crucial. The caste system makes the situation worse.

A country in which the biggest reason behind a high infant mortality rate is not a deadly disease but diarrhoea, concerts such as these and organisations like Wash For India are hardly dispensable.

Of the series of concerts that the organisation has planned all over the country the event at Zorba will be the kickstarter. The programme is part of their creative campaign to bring about more awareness and dialogue about the water and sanitation crisis. The programme will have an audio-visual campaign in between the performances for the audience, and post the concert, there will be a discussion around the topic. Established artists like Susmit Sen and Shubha Mudgal having agreed to be a part of the concert, the toilet concert seems to be something to definitely watch out for.

The Susmit Sen Chronicles have hit the radar recently and performance should be eagerly anticipated. Shubha Mudgal’s contemporary indie avatar is always welcome, and Harpreet is surely emerging to be one of the young voices to watch out for.
