Engineer loses job offer after posting about career dilemma on Quora

Once again, social media proved to be a dangerous playground due to its immense reach and influence on its users. In a strange turn of events where coincidence reached a new level of absurdity, an engineer lost a potential job offer after posting about its pros and cons on the popular question-and-answer website Quora. He had posted a query about choosing between Uber and Zenefits and laid down the upsides and downsides for each job offer. A few hours later, one of the offers was taken back.

When speaking about Uber, the engineer said that the company’s brand value would help him move to companies like Google and Apple in the future. However, he also mentioned that Uber did not seem to require his skill set that much and were not ready to negotiate on the salary.

On the other hand, he praised Zenefits by talking about its work culture, accessible leadership, and their want for an engineer and a better package. However, they lacked the edge factor and ‘buzzword’ that was needed to enter companies like Google.

This did not go down well with Zenefits CEO Parker Conrad. With a question that said – “What is the best way to start my career: Uber or Zenefits?”; Conrad sternly replied – “Definitely not Zenefits”. While he also said that his offer would be revoked, he later removed that part citing that it would be unfair to make such a statement public.

The post was a reminder to all social media users – the Internet is not the place to put up something that your current or future employer would not appreciate.
