Super Mario Galaxy Movie Unveils 30-Second Teaser at The Game Awards — Featuring a Heroic Luigi Moment

Nintendo and Illumination electrified The Game Awards 2025 with a brief but explosive new look at the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie, offering fans just 30 seconds of fresh footage — and enough action to send the internet into a frenzy. The teaser showcases a chaotic encounter inside Peach’s castle, with Bowser Jr., Mario, and an unexpectedly fierce Luigi stealing the spotlight.

Super Mario Galaxy Movie, set to hit theaters on April 3, 2026, is the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed over $1.3 billion globally. With production led once again by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Nintendo icon Shigeru Miyamoto, expectations are sky-high — and this new clip only fuels the fire.

Luigi Lands a Knockout Blow in the First Real Action Tease

The footage opens with Bowser Jr. cornering Mario and Luigi in what appears to be Peach’s castle. Armed with his signature magical paintbrush, Bowser Jr. demands they hand over his father, who — as earlier trailers revealed — has been shrunk and now lives inside a tiny castle within Peach’s fortress.

Mario attempts to de-escalate, but Bowser Jr.’s paintbrush morphs into a spikeball, slamming him across the room as Bowser Jr. overwhelms Mario, Luigi steps in with a dramatic knee strike, a moment that instantly lit up social media. IGN’s Rebekah Valentine called it proof that Luigi is far more than a “timid guy with a vacuum cleaner,” while fans compared the move to Captain Falcon’s iconic “Falcon Knee” from Smash Bros.

Though short, the Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer delivers a visually stunning snapshot of the film’s tone — whimsical, action-packed, and filled with the quirky charm Nintendo fans love.

A Star-Studded Returning Cast — With Major New Additions

The sequel brings back the beloved voice cast from the 2023 hit: Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Newcomers include Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., adding serious star power to the expanding Mario cinematic universe.

Rumors suggest the movie may also feature deep-cut Nintendo characters — a tantalizing tease for longtime fans.

The Galaxy Expands in 2026

With gorgeous visuals, a playful tone, and a promising storyline, the Super Mario Galaxy Movie is shaping up to be one of 2026’s biggest animated releases. Even in just 30 seconds, the teaser reaffirms Illumination and Nintendo’s powerful partnership — and Luigi’s surprise hero moment has only strengthened fan excitement.

As anticipation builds, all eyes are now on April 3, 2026. Until then, the Mushroom Kingdom faithful will be rewatching those 30 seconds on loop.
