Tempest Trailer Teases High-Stakes Korean Spy Thriller Premiering September 10
Hulu is gearing up for another international hit with Tempest, a Korean spy thriller that promises to deliver edge-of-your-seat action and political intrigue. The official trailer, released this week, offers a tantalizing glimpse of the high-stakes drama set to unfold when the series premieres on September 10, 2025.
Following the critical success of Paradise, Hulu is doubling down on political thrillers with Tempest, a globe-trotting conspiracy drama that could be its next sleeper hit. The show follows Seo Munju (Gianna Jun), a former diplomat, as she is pulled into a deadly web of espionage after an assassination attempt on a South Korean presidential candidate. But this is no ordinary political plot—the candidate has been accused of being a North Korean spy, setting off a multinational conspiracy that stretches all the way to the White House.
Munju, portrayed by Gianna Jun, must navigate a labyrinth of deception, state secrets, and personal danger. Assisting her, yet complicating matters with his own shadowy past, is mercenary Paik Sanho, played by Gang Dongwon. As Munju digs deeper, she uncovers a Pandora’s box of geopolitical intrigue that threatens the fragile stability of the Korean Peninsula.
Adding to the international flavor of the series are cast members John Cho, Lee Misook, Park Haejoon, Christopher Gorham, Michael Gaston, and Spencer Garrett. This ensemble makes Tempest one of the most globally diverse casts ever assembled for a Korean drama.

Behind the scenes, the Korean spy thriller series boasts a powerhouse creative team. Kim Heewon directs, with Heo Myeonghaeng—Korea’s leading martial arts director—co-directing the action sequences. The screenplay comes from Chung Seokyung, known for co-writing the acclaimed film Decision To Leave. Produced by Imaginus in association with Showrunners, AA, and Skydance, Tempest is designed to captivate both Korean drama enthusiasts and fans of Western political thrillers.
The release strategy will see the first three episodes drop on Hulu on September 10, followed by two episodes every Wednesday for its nine-episode run. The serialized rollout aims to build momentum and maintain suspense week-to-week, a strategy that paid off handsomely for Hulu’s previous international hits.
With its gripping storyline, high-octane action, and a cast blending A-list Korean stars with Hollywood talent, Tempest has all the ingredients to become Hulu’s next global phenomenon.
