Aaron Sorkin’s ‘The Social Network’ Sequel Gathers Steam with Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison, and Jeremy Strong in Talks
Aaron Sorkin is making a dramatic return to Silicon Valley — and he’s bringing an all-new cast to reboot one of the most impactful films of the 21st century. According to industry insiders, Sorkin is in early talks with Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White (The Bear), Oscar winner Mikey Madison (Anora), and Succession star Jeremy Strong to headline the sequel to The Social Network.
While the project remains in development with Sony Pictures and no official greenlight has been issued, buzz is building rapidly. Aaron Sorkin will write and direct the film, a shift from the original 2010 David Fincher-directed movie that chronicled the rise of Facebook and earned three Academy Awards.
This time, Aaron Sorkin’s lens turns to Facebook’s far more controversial second act.
Titled unofficially as The Social Network Part II, the story will reportedly draw inspiration from The Facebook Files, a 2021 Wall Street Journal investigation by Jeff Horwitz. The articles revealed the tech giant’s internal knowledge of the platform’s role in spreading political misinformation, fueling real-world violence, and contributing to a youth mental health crisis. Sources say the script will be a “tense and timely” exploration of Silicon Valley’s ethical collapse — a perfect fit for Aaron Sorkin’s sharp political dialogue and high-stakes storytelling.
Jeremy Strong, best known for his haunting turn as Kendall Roy in HBO’s Succession, is reportedly the top choice to play Mark Zuckerberg, replacing Jesse Eisenberg. While Eisenberg received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal in the original film, insiders suggest Sorkin wants a more “mature, volatile edge” to Zuckerberg in the sequel.
Jeremy Allen White’s star continues to rise following consecutive Emmy wins. He is also playing Bruce Springsteen in the upcoming biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere. Meanwhile, Mikey Madison is riding high after her Academy Award-winning performance in Anora and has several buzzy projects in the works, including A24’s The Masque of Death.

The casting shake-up has sparked intense speculation online. With Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake not yet attached, fans wonder if this new chapter will focus entirely on fresh faces in a changed digital landscape.
Aaron Sorkin has been vocal in recent years about the societal consequences of tech monopolies. “There’s more story to tell,” he said in a 2021 interview, hinting at the sequel’s focus on ethical deterioration in Big Tech. With longtime collaborators Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser producing, The Social Network sequel may once again define a cultural moment.
As Facebook (now Meta) continues to dominate the global information space, Sorkin’s sequel promises to dissect the power, danger, and influence that social media has gained since the original film’s release.
Whether it’s a courtroom drama, political thriller, or ethical exposé, The Social Network Part II is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of the decade. Stay tuned.
