Flipkart partners with American wrist brand Fossil Group to offer discounts to customers in exchange for their used watches. The online marketplace will donate the used watches to non-profit organisation Goonj for distribution.
Fossil Group’s premium brands include Skagen , Emporio Armani, DKNY and Michael Kors. The watches category sales have doubled in the last year with both Flipkart and Amazon reporting the same. Amazon has reported that its premium watch category, where units are priced at over Rs 10,000, grew by 1,660% in the last two years.
Rishi Vasudev, vice president of fashion at Flipkart, “Apparel, footwear, and watches are the top-selling sub-category under lifestyle, followed by fashion accessory. Currently, we have close to two lakh styles and we are focusing on introducing a whole host of international as well as fashion brands to our assortment. We have witnessed great adoption from tier II and III cities, which are constantly on the lookout for premium brands.”
Earlier in October Flipkart introduced an exchange scheme for electronics and mobile phones. Vasudev added that Flipkart will introduce exchange offers in other categories as well.
