Kochi Alt Rockers Black Letters Release Debut Album

At the NXg Rockstar competition organized by The Hindu in Chennai in January 2012, which pits college bands against each other, Kochi-based alternate rock band Black Letters bagged the winning spot with 83 MPH (read here) in close contest. From having recognized their universally accepted talent in early 2012 to releasing their debut album titled Shapes On The Wall, on February 27, the band has come a long way in the last two years.

The album that packs seven tracks, plus one bonus track, has left behind most of the metal elements which the band initially stood for when they formed in 2007, to adopt a smartly formulated alternate vibe. The band (Sharath Iyer on vocals and guitars, Sarang Menon on guitars, Arjun Radhakrishnan on bass, Akash Chacko on drums most of whom hail from Kochi) currently resides in Bangalore. Meanwhile, they are working on a music video for one their tracks “Roam” from their upcoming album (teaser video below). Also, previously the band had released a four-track EP titled Snippets, which never saw the light of day due to an evolving change in their musical tastes.
