Sylvia Hoeks and Greg Tarzan Davis Join Nicolas Cage in ‘Lords of War’ Sequel as Filming Begins

Nearly two decades after Nicolas Cage stunned audiences with his chilling portrayal of infamous arms dealer Yuri Orlov, the long-awaited sequel, Lords of War, is officially underway. Directed by Andrew Niccol, the mastermind behind the 2005 cult classic Lord of War, the new film has added powerhouse performers Sylvia Hoeks and Greg Tarzan Davis to its cast, joining Cage, Bill Skarsgård, and Laura Harrier. Production begins this month in Belgium and Morocco, according to Variety.

A High-Stakes Father–Son Showdown

In Lords of WarNicolas Cage reprises his role as Yuri Orlov, once among the world’s most notorious gunrunners. The sequel raises the stakes with a bold narrative twist: Yuri must now confront his own son, Anton, played by Bill Skarsgård.

Anton is described as “a chip off the old block,” but far more dangerous. Unlike Yuri, who operated in shadows and loopholes, Anton is assembling a mercenary army to fight U.S. conflicts in the Middle East. The script promises a bitter rivalry, complete with ideological conflict, explosive confrontations—and even competition for the same woman.

New Cast Brings Prestige and Firepower

The addition of Dutch actress Sylvia Hoeks, known for her acclaimed role in Blade Runner 2049, adds gravitas to the already intense storyline. Fresh off Apple TV+’s See and several upcoming projects, Hoeks’ inclusion signals a sophisticated, high-octane sequel.

Greg Tarzan Davis, rising rapidly in Hollywood with credits in Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, brings youthful dynamism. His casting alongside Cage and Skarsgård suggests a sequel with both emotional depth and blockbuster action.

A Sequel Fans Never Saw Coming

While Lord of War wasn’t a massive box-office success in 2005, it became a cult favourite, appreciated for its razor-sharp satire and unflinching look at the global arms trade. Despite its modest $72.6 million worldwide gross, the film earned enduring respect, bolstered by strong audience ratings and Nicolas Cage’s memorable performance.

The sequel’s development began in earnest in 2023, with excitement building as more cast and production details surfaced. Bill Skarsgård has teased the project as “cynical, satirical, bleak—and wickedly fun,” embracing the original’s dark humour and moral complexity.

Returning Creative Team Guarantees Authentic Continuation

Writer-director Andrew Niccol returns to helm Lords of War, ensuring continuity in tone and style. Vendôme Pictures, the team behind the Oscar-winning CODA, is producing alongside Nicolas Cage’s Saturn Films. Bill Skarsgård also serves as executive producer, signalling a deep commitment to the project.

As filming begins, fans are eagerly anticipating the first trailers and further casting reveals. Lords of War does not yet have a release date, but with production rolling, the countdown has begun.
