With the indie music scene bursting at its seams there is an endless array of bands crawling out from behind a new rock every day. Essentially they come as groups, take a compliment or a tomato to the face, as a group. Then, there are a bunch of solo musicians who come to the fore knowing well their talent is worthy of showing the world by themselves, or out of sheer narcissism.Whatever be the reason, we’ve put together a list of solo musicians whose songsare plain, simple and will not disappoint.

 

 

 

Nischay Parekh Nischay Parekh

Walk into a venue with a music gig about to take place and you’ll probably hear murmurs of 20 year-old pop musician Nischay Parekh. His name is doing the rounds and has almost become a household name for the indie consumers. Parekh, once a member of Kolkata-based pop rock band The Monkey in Me, recently launched his solo album “Ocean Sounds”, whose songs have a lucid, dreamy and pop-ish current to it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Dhruv Visvanath Dhruv Visvanath

He dresses like Jason Mraz with his hat and his casual t-shirts. His fast-paced and upbeat vocal style again force you to think of the similarity with which Mraz sings singles like “Wordplay” and “Geek in the pink”. But then Dhruv Visvanath is an entity by himself. His music is nuanced and pre-meditated with Andy Mckee being one of his biggest guitar idols. Composing more instrumentals than lyrical songs, Visvanath often plays with Amar Pandey on the bass and Ishaan Gandhi on the drums when he’s not performing solo.

A believer in “simple” and “listenable” music, Vasuda Sharma, is a solo indie artist to look out for. Her recent album “Attuned Spirits” contains almost divine tunes which get complemented by her ethereal and airy voice. From the album “Maajhi”, “Laagi Lagan” and “Jaagi Jaagi Raina” speak a traditional language of an Indian culture due to the extravagant use of the cello.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 Karsh Kale Karsh Kale

It would be silly to not look out for Karsh Kale at the pace at which he’s shooting towards the stars in terms of popularity and the fact that he’s had the Indian indie audiences by storm with his electro-fusion genre. An India-American musician Karsh Kale was known for his electric tabla performances. His solo albums “Breathing Under Water” and “Cinema” sent shockwaves when they released as they fused sounds of the East with the rhythm of the West.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 Karsh Kale Siddharth Basrur
