Lil Wayne Drops ‘Tha Carter VI’: A Triumphant Return With Big Names & Bold Moves

After a seven-year wait, Tha Carter VI is finally here—and Lil Wayne proves once again why he’s one of hip-hop’s greatest to ever do it. The New Orleans rap icon released the highly anticipated sixth chapter in his Carter series on Friday (June 6), delivering an album packed with star power, sonic versatility, and lyrical fire.

Weezy’s last Carter instalment, 2018’s Tha Carter V, topped the Billboard 200, and he’s looking to continue that chart-topping streak with Tha Carter VI. The album features a jaw-dropping guest list that spans genres and generations, including Big Sean, Kodak Black, MGK, Jelly Roll, 2 Chainz, and even U2’s Bono, who lend their voices to the project. Rising Texas star BigXthaPlug and genre-blurring pop artists Charli XCX and Chappell Roan also make appearances, creating an eclectic mix that shows Lil Wayne’s range and relevance.

The production side is equally impressive, with Grammy-winning beatmaker Wheezy and Ye (formerly Kanye West) handling duties behind the boards, ensuring the album feels as big and bold as the expectations surrounding it.

“The Days,” the project’s early standout with Lil Wayne featuring Bono, was previewed during ESPN’s NBA Finals coverage, sparking massive buzz. It’s a soaring, genre-bending track that reflects Wayne’s willingness to push musical boundaries while still keeping things unmistakably hip-hop.

Tha Carter VI is also a milestone in Wayne’s career in more ways than one. On release day,  the rapper headlined New York City’s iconic Madison Square Garden for the first time as a solo act. The show marked the live debut of his new music and kicked off the Carter VI Tour, a massive 34-date run that will hit major cities like Los Angeles, Toronto, Atlanta, Dallas, and Detroit before wrapping up in West Palm Beach on October 2.

For dedicated fans, Wayne also launched exclusive Carter VI merch bundles through his website, including collaborations with fashion brands Barriers and BAPE—further proving that the C6 era is more than just music; it’s a cultural moment.

It’s been nearly five years since Lil Wayne’s last solo release, Funeral, which also debuted at No. 1. But Tha Carter VI isn’t just a return—it’s a declaration. With a stacked tracklist, high-profile collaborators, and a fresh but familiar sound, Lil Wayne is showing that even after decades in the game, he’s far from finished.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a new listener, now’s the time to press play. Tha Carter VI is streaming everywhere—and the reign of Lil Wayne continues.
