Nicolas Cage and FKA twigs Reimagine Mary and Joseph in Chilling Biblical Horror The Carpenter’s Son

Produced by Magnolia Pictures and takes inspiration from the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas, an ancient text that depicts the supernatural childhood of Jesus.

The first teaser trailer for The Carpenter’s Son has arrived, and it’s already sparking heated conversations in both film and religious circles. Directed and written by Lotfy Nathan, the biblical horror tale stars Nicolas Cage as Joseph and FKA twigs as Mary, with rising star Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place) playing Jesus—referred to only as the Boy.

The film, slated for Fall 2025 release, is produced by Magnolia Pictures and takes inspiration from the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas, an ancient text that depicts the supernatural childhood of Jesus. Far from a traditional retelling, this story leans into horror and myth, portraying a family besieged by both natural and divine terrors.

The Plot: Faith, Fear, and the Supernatural

According to the official synopsis, The Carpenter’s Son follows Mary, Joseph, and their son as they hide in Roman Egypt. The Boy, struggling with his identity and growing powers, encounters another mysterious child who sows seeds of doubt and rebellion. As he begins to embrace his inherent abilities, the family becomes hunted by dark forces beyond comprehension.

The Carpenter’s Son teaser hints at unsettling atmospheres—flickering candlelight, whispered prayers, and a sense of divine dread—that position the film as a genre-bending exploration of faith and fear.

Magnolia Pictures executives Eamonn Bowles and Dori Begley praised Lotfy Nathan’s work, calling it “a genre-bending spectacle that defies expectations at every turn.”

Why It’s Already Controversial

Biblical horror is a rare and provocative subgenre, and The Carpenter’s Son is already drawing comparisons to films like The Last Temptation of Christ and Darren Aronofsky’s mother! for its willingness to merge scripture with dread.

With themes of faith, rebellion, and divine punishment, the movie is poised to generate both acclaim and controversy. Horror fans, cinephiles, and religious critics alike will no doubt be debating its interpretation well beyond opening weekend.
