Empowering Entrepreneurship: EDII’s Impact on 43 International Professionals from Rwanda & Kenya

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, celebrated the graduation of 43 professionals from Kenya and Rwanda in a ceremony held on Friday at its campus. The event marked the successful conclusion of two specialized programs sponsored by the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The programs, Gender Responsive Governance in Entrepreneurship (2-Week Programme) and Bringing Digital Efficiency in Cooperatives (3-Week Programme), aimed at enhancing the skills and capacities of the participants.

The valedictory function was graced by the presence of H.E. Amb. Peter Maina Munyiri, OGW, High Commissioner of the Kenya High Commission, New Delhi, as the chief guest. Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII, and senior officials from EDII and the government were also present to congratulate the graduates.

The Gender Responsive Governance in Entrepreneurship program, tailored for 20 officials from the Government of Kenya, was conducted from March 11 to 22, 2024. The intensive two-week program aimed to empower participants with tools and insights to promote gender-inclusive entrepreneurship policies and practices.

The Bringing Digital Efficiency in Cooperatives program, which ran from March 4 to 22, 2024, catered to 23 participants from Rwanda. This three-week program focused on revolutionizing cooperative practices through digital interventions, equipping participants with advanced tools to streamline operations and enhance decision-making processes.

Addressing the participants, H.E. Amb. Peter Maina Munyiri said, “My compliments to participants from the East Africa region on successfully concluding this enriching journey at EDII. Let us now leverage the transformative impact gained from these programs to bring about change in our respective fields.”

Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII, highlighted the relevance of the programs in today’s context, stating, “The programs were modelled on highly significant topics, much relevant in today’s times when women are at the core of society, and their capabilities can well be shaped to make them credible drivers of the economy, and in times when the dynamics of digital technology can become an essential engine of growth.”

Throughout the programs, participants gained valuable insights and were able to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application through relevant exposure visits.

The graduation ceremony marked not just the completion of a program, but the beginning of a new chapter for these professionals, armed with knowledge and skills to drive positive change in their communities and contribute to sustainable development.
