Ashoka Hotel to be used as Covid-19 care facility for Delhi HC judges, staff

Following a request from the Delhi High Court, the Delhi government has directed Ashoka Hotel, a five-star facility, to set aside 100 rooms for Covid-19 care centres for high court judges, judicial staff and their families. In an order issued by the sub-divisional magistrate of Chanakyapuri on Sunday, the facility will be managed by Primus Hospital.

The charges for using the facility will be collected by the hospital, which will later reimburse the hotel for the rooms, meals, housekeeping, disinfection, and all other services availed by the patients. The staff of the hotel will be provided all protective gear and given basic adequate training, stated the order.

It will also provide ambulance for transfer of patients, while the hotel will provide services, including rooms, housekeeping, disinfection and food, for the patients, it said. The order comes at a time when covid patients across the national capital are scrambling for beds and access to hospital care. The High Court itself has made several scathing observations critical of Centre and the Delhi government on this issue while hearing pleas on the Covid crisis.
