Social startups get an accelerator program from IIT-Hyderabad and Surge Impact Foundation

An accelerator program for social startups could has been announced by IIT-Hyderabad (International Institute of Information Technology). The three-month long accelerator will be run by IIT-Hyderabad in partnership with Surge Impact Foundation.

“The programme will give entrepreneurs an overview of the important aspects of building and running a social enterprise. The start-ups will be guided through leadership, business management, peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and technology implementation for social good,” IIIT-H has said in a statement.

The program will give social startups the opportunity to work out problems that they may encounter while setting up their service or building their products. At the end of this startups would also get seed funding opportunities ranging from Rs. 50,000 to a lakh.

Tech-based Indian startups that have been working on developing their product or service for under a year to tackle social or environmental challenges will get a chance to participate. While the developments may be for challenges faced within the country, the resolutions could find application elsewhere in the world.
