After years of dominating streaming through Disney+, The Mandalorian is officially making the leap to the big screen. On September 22, Lucasfilm and Disney unveiled the first-look trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu, a spin-off film that continues the story of Din Djarin and the galaxy’s most beloved little green Force user. The movie is set to premiere exclusively in theaters on May 22, 2026.
The Mandalorian & Grogu trailer immediately lit up social media, with Star Wars fans dissecting every frame and celebrating the return of Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin. For many, the trailer marks the next era of Star Wars cinema after a string of Disney+ series expanded the lore of the galaxy.
The Story So Far
The Mandalorian & Grogu takes place after the fall of the Empire, in the fragile early days of the New Republic. Despite the Rebels’ victory, Imperial warlords continue to linger, threatening to destabilize the galaxy’s newfound freedom.
The official synopsis reveals that the New Republic enlists Din Djarin and his apprentice Grogu to help safeguard peace. This sets up what promises to be a high-stakes battle between scattered remnants of the Empire and the Mandalorian warrior who once sought to capture — but now fiercely protects — his Force-sensitive foundling.
