Kimi Antonelli Wins Thrilling Miami Grand Prix After Intense Battle With Norris

Kimi Antonelli continued his sensational 2026 campaign by winning a dramatic Miami Grand Prix, holding off relentless pressure from Lando Norris to secure his third consecutive victory of the season. Starting from pole at the Miami International Autodrome, Antonelli navigated a chaotic Miami GP race start and multiple lead changes before emerging victorious by 3.264 seconds.

Chaotic Opening Lap Sparks Early Drama

The Miami GP race began with immediate tension as Kimi Antonelli went wheel-to-wheel with Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc into Turn 1. Both Kimi Antonelli and Max Verstappen locked up, triggering contact that sent Verstappen spinning down the order.

Charles Leclerc initially seized the lead, while the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri quickly entered the fight, setting the stage for a multi-team battle at the front.

Safety Car and Crashes Shake Up Strategy

The race was neutralized early after separate crashes involving Isack Hadjar and Pierre Gasly triggered a Safety Car. The incidents forced teams into early strategic decisions, with some drivers opting for pit stops under caution.

As racing resumed, the lead changed hands multiple times, with Lando Norris briefly taking control before Kimi Antonelli regained track position through a well-timed strategy call.

Strategic Brilliance Puts Antonelli Back in Control

Mercedes executed a decisive undercut strategy that allowed Antonelli to leapfrog rivals during the pit cycle. Once back in clean air, the Italian demonstrated composure under pressure, managing tyre wear and maintaining track position.

Despite Lando Norris closing the gap in the closing laps, Kimi Antonelli kept his cool to convert pole position into victory, making history as the first driver to win his first three races from pole.

Behind the duo, the battle for third intensified. Piastri overtook Leclerc in the closing stages to secure the final podium spot. Charles Leclerc’s race unraveled further after a late spin and a post-race 20-second penalty for repeated track limits violations, dropping him to eighth.

This promoted George Russell to fourth and Verstappen to fifth, despite the Dutchman recovering impressively from his early spin.

Final Results and Standout Performances

Antonelli led Norris and Piastri on the podium, while Russell, Verstappen, and Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top six. Alpine’s Franco Colapinto impressed with a seventh-place finish, while Williams drivers Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon secured valuable points.

The race also featured multiple retirements, including those of Hadjar, Gasly, Liam Lawson, and Nico Hülkenberg, highlighting the event’s unpredictability.

With this victory, Antonelli extends his championship lead and strengthens his position as the driver to beat in 2026. His ability to recover from setbacks and deliver under pressure continues to set him apart.

Formula 1 now heads to Canada, where rivals will look to halt Antonelli’s momentum in what is shaping up to be a fiercely competitive season.
