Amazon Prime Video launched in India on Google Play store

Amazon’s Prime Video services was launched in India today. Through Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Prime users will get access to newly released Hollywood and Bollywood movies, TV shows, kids’ programming and Amazon Original series. Currently, it is only available on the Google Play Store but is expected to be launched on the Apple App Store soon.

At the annual cost of Rs. 499, along with express deliveries of packages and other perks, all Amazon Prime customers can now watch video content on the app without any added costs.

In an online post on their website, Amazon India said, “We are continuously adding new content for you from popular content providers like Dharma Productions, T-series and more. We are excited to introduce upcoming, original and exclusive TV shows just for India. Our focus on new shows and movies will only increase over time.”

Users can set up Prime Video on multiple devices, of their choice, and watch on their laptops, smart TV, desktops and gaming consoles.

‘Unlimited ad-free streaming of Amazon Originals, premium movies and TV shows from India and around the world’ is the tagline for the Amazon Prime Video service. It will be directly competing with players like Netflix – launched earlier this year. In addition to the Video app service being cheaper than Netflix is the fact that the Rs. 499 subscription also makes for free one day-deliveries for a year. However, the battle for the throne would be in the exclusive content that the platforms will be offering because, as they say, content is king.
